Counsellor
Xandra works integratively, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioural (CBT) approaches rather than following a one-size-fits-all model. She adapts her work to suit each individual client, offering a collaborative space to explore experiences and make sense of what is happening in the present or the past.
Xandra has experience working with adults both face-to-face and online, including individuals in community settings and those in high-pressure work environments. She often supports clients who feel overwhelmed by stress, uncertainty, shame, or questions around identity. Her experience includes working with grief and loss, low mood, trauma, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and risk. Her wider professional background also provides her with a strong understanding of responsibility, performance pressure, and resilience.
She welcomes working with people from all backgrounds and identities and strives to offer a space that is respectful, inclusive, and culturally sensitive. This includes, but is not limited to, people of different races, ethnicities, religions, genders, sexual orientations, relationship structures, and family backgrounds. Xandra recognises how social context, power, and lived experience can shape mental health and welcomes conversations about identity when they feel important to the client.
Xandra works ethically and reflectively in line with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework. She receives regular clinical supervision and holds professional indemnity insurance and up-to-date enhanced DBS certificates.

I'm often asked to recommend a counsellor for young people and Rafael is top of my list. He has a way of connecting with people and is kind, warm and insightful. He isn't afraid of taking on whatever difficulties or challenges a client may be experiencing.
I have known Rafael for a number of years - he always works with purpose and integrity and shows great compassion in service to his clients. I would recommend him without hesitation.
When I first met Rafael I immediately felt at ease - his calm nature and understanding manner make him very easy to talk to. His knowledge of counselling and psychotherapy is vast and as a colleague he is a great support to me and the work I do.
“From the first moment I spoke to Rafael, I could tell he just 'got it' - he understood exactly what I was feeling, and what I needed - someone who would challenge my ways of thinking, guide me, direct me, and help me change very deeply held damaging behaviours and beliefs stretching back to childhood and subsequent trauma. Over the last year, he has absolutely given me the tools to achieve that, in the kindest, most compassionate way imaginable. I still have improvements to make (and perhaps always will) and am looking forward to continuing to work with him for as long as I need to support me with that.”
“I trust Rafael implicitly; he is professional and yet human; compassionate while able to get to the heart of difficult issues; and adapts his level of communication so that he extremely effectively helps you understand both yourself and his suggested therapeutic approach. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone for any issue.”
“Working with Rafael has genuinely changed my life. He's supported me through some of the hardest, darkest, and most chaotic moments I've ever faced. His patience, kindness, and professionalism have been constant even when I wasn't at my best. He's given me structure, motivation, guidance, and unwavering support when I needed it most.”
“I honestly don't think I'd be the person I am today and maybe I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for Rafael and the work we've done together. Because of him, I've learned how to be accountable, authentic, and to finally believe in myself.”
“Today, I'm sober, grounded, confident, and genuinely excited to wake up every morning and live my life. That's something I never thought I'd say. Rafael's helped me reconnect with who I really am to care for myself, to love myself, and to build a future I'm proud of. He doesn't just do his job – he cares. You can feel it in every session, every conversation, and every bit of time he gives. The impact he's had on me goes far beyond therapy – it's been life-changing. I'm deeply grateful to have him in my corner.”
“Forever grateful to Rafael! When psychotherapy was first recommended to me, I was sceptical. Even as a mental health professional, a large part of me resisted being vulnerable in therapy and exposing myself, after a series of traumatic life events. I didn't want to accept I needed help and even more challenging to put my trust so deeply in another person. It felt like a huge step. On meeting Rafael for the first time, I was struck by how intuitively he felt my predicament and I learned to soften as he put my mind at ease. Rafael showed me he could empathise with compassion whilst teaching me tools to approach my thoughts and feelings wisely. He seemed to know what I needed, the courage to build a strong foundation whilst maintaining a soft centre. He has relentless patience, trust and conviction in his approach, which gave me the confidence I needed.”
